Rain Water Harvesting Initiative
For years, Bondhur Pothe Bondhu has witnessed the receding groundwater levels in the Sunderbans, raising concerns about a severe water crisis. In remote villages, we frequently encountered women struggling with the daily burden of fetching water from rivers, a hardship that becomes especially difficult during the muddy, rainy season.
To create a sustainable solution, we successfully launched a rain water harvesting project at a primary government school in Jamespur. Today, the school and the local ICDS centre are using harvested rain water for cooking mid-day meals and maintaining hygiene. The community’s positive feedback motivates us to expand this initiative to reach more schools in the region.
